1. 研究目的与意义

After casual chance of watching the movie called The Joy Luck Club, I try to read the original novel of Amy Tan#8217;s The Joy Luck Club. This novel reveals the conflicts between mothers and daughters. And it also reflects cultural conflicts.

This novel reflects the second-generation Chinese American women#8217;s adaptation to the western culture and their conflicts with their previous generation. Nowadays, more and more Chinese people choose migration. Ethnic Chinese as a special group, on the one hand, are Chinese in the eyes of foreigners; and they inherit the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. On the other hands, they are also affected by the western culture. However, their mothers persist in traditional Chinese ideology and culture. But the second-generation Chinese American women have been fully melted into the western society. So, the conflicts between the mothers and daughters reflect the cultural conflicts. At the same time, racial relations, the relationship between the white and Chinese people, the relationship between the classes are also the causes of conflicts.

Thus, I will study the relationship of mothers and daughters, racial relations, the relationship between the white and Chinese people, and class relation. Two generation represents different culture. The mother represents the traditional Chinese culture, daughters represent the western culture. So the conflict between mother and daughter fully reflected the conflict between the two cultures. And they were also the representative of many immigrants. However, the status of the immigrants is not respected n contemporary western society. So the class and race relations have a vital link to reflect culture conflict.
