3. 国内外研究现状
Research of sexist languages in West
The research of sexist languages started in late 1960s and early 1970s, mainly in the west of English speaking countries. Feminist scholarship and investigations into the sexism in language started in the mid-1970s. Early works on sexism in language involved documenting the various ways in which language could be understood as being sexist. Casey Miller and Spender have pointed out that the English language is
inherently sexist because it carries certain assumptions about gender roles. (Miller amp; Swift,1976; Spender, 1980).Thorne and Henley pointed out that it was the women#8217;s liberation movement that pushed this field of study into prominence, and created atmosphere for its acceptance and legitimization. (Henley,1975) Then lots of attention was focused on the sexist bias reflected in the language. Language was and is seen by many feminists as a powerful instrument of patriarchy: for example, feminist Dale Spender, spoke of the English language as being#8221; man-made#8221; and as being an important contributor to women#8217;s oppression. (Spender,1980). From the late 1980s to 1990s, most of the linguists made a deeper research on the sexist languages .In recent years, the research of gender language can be considered as systematic.
